Vision Boards

Vision boards are collections of images, illustrations and words that visually represent the life you would like to lead.

When you create a this special board you are imagining the way you want your life to be.

The Law of Attraction says that you will draw into your life the things you think about most.

When Obama was on everyone's lips Oprah Winfrey created a vision or dream board with Obama in the center of her board. Next to his photo she placed am image of the dress she would wear to his inauguration. This was Oprah's vision for Obama. You can create vision boards that include your aspirations for other people as as well.

On her vision boards, Oprah writes, "See it!" Believe it!" "Achieve it!"

By looking at your personal board every day, you will eventually attract into your life the things you want the most.

These boards are powerful tools that will affect your self-conscious, guiding you along the path towards the future you hope for.

Take a look at the image above. I want to bring more travel, art, languages and nature into my life. So I chose images to reflect these visions. The board sits next to me on my desk and helps me make decisions when I'm unsure about things.

Getting Ready for Creating Vision Boards

Before starting, you'll want to think about your life as it is now. You'll need to prepare. As they say, "Half the fun is getting there!" On a sheet of paper describe the life you want to have. Before you can choose the images, illustrations and words for your board, you need to know what your future life will look like.

In other words, you need to imagine the life you want before selecting the material for your board. Here are some questions to help make your future life come alive.

  • Are you living alone or with someone?
  • Where are you living? In a city condo? In the country with the sound of river rushing by?
  • What kind of job do you have? Do you have a new career or your own business?
  • Are you traveling to other countries?
  • Are you doing volunteer work or helping others in some way?
  • Have you taken up activities such as playing an instrument, painting or learning a new language?

The next important step is to discover your values

How to Discover Your Values of Life

Your vision statement will be driven by your strongest personal values. But what are values? Your values are your beliefs. We all have them, although we might not realize what they are. The easiest way to know who we are is to check your values from a prepared list. This is a powerful way to get to know yourself. Along with the answers to the questions above, knowing your values will help you create your vision board.

You are almost ready to start your own board! Try this important self esteem activity before starting. Create a wish list.

How to Create a Wish List

On a piece of paper, write 10 things you’d like to be, to do or to have. Give your list a title and date. Put the list where you can see it every day. It’s important to look at the list every day because your minute by minute decisions will send you in the direction of your wishes.

I can't say enough how powerful this activity is to make things happen in your life. I've completed three wish lists over the last 20 years and each time 80% of what I wanted to happen has come to be.

This activity works because every second of every day we are making decisions. We usually remember the big ones – deciding to get married, to accept or leave a job, to return to school and so forth.

But, we’re often not aware of the small decisions we make, the ones leading to the big, important ones. All you need to do it look at your list at least once a day. Just that act of seeing the words for the life you want will help to cement the choices that lead you in the direction of the things you wish for.

Do this easy wish list activity as preparation for choosing your vision board images. At the same time start making your dreams real with hardly any effort at all!

With the answers to questions about your future life, a list of your unique values and your wish list fresh in your mind, you are ready to create your own special vision board.
